The Spartan, from birth until the time of death, was purveyor to serve the State. In light of this principle, the action which was taking aimed at preparing for this purpose, meaning, preparation for war. That was the Spartan "Agogi".

When a boy was coming to life, his father was obliged to send for inspection.

The older members of the tribe, find the strength and limb

child, enabling parents to raise. In Otherwise, the abandoned in Keadas, lead to chance.
The pit in which abandoned the non-able-bodied newborns in Taygetos, called "consequential".
It should be clarified that not killed, or simply abandoned to die from lack of care, or to find someone and to bring up, but outside of Laconic genus.

The inspection of newborns were in an area that was called "Club".
This was the area where the Spartans gathered to indulge in military and athletic pursuits.
The consent of the inspecting, was a prerequisite for the integration of a child in laconic breed. As Plutarch (Agesilaus, 12),
no one parent is not entitled to raise his child, if there was no prior approval of the State.
As long as the boy proved he was able-bodied, the parents anetrefan up to seven years.
Then they formed part of a public education system, which was known as "Agogi". Since then, the children lived in groups,
which were divided into iles and herds and "voues".
At the age of twenty years, education peaked and young people now called "eirenes".

The harsh and continuous training, the frugal diet and thrifty clothing, the doctrine of perseverance and respect, were components of "treatment" of Laconians.
The objectives of this learning process was not purely military, but also broader social.
The young Spartans were engaged in the acquisition of virtues, namely the consolidation of "indecency" (respect) and the "persuasion", that of obedience.
For the consolidation of education, the State had appointed officers who were called "Paidonomoi" and exerted moralistic,
educational and supervisory work on the boys.
The office is occupied people distinguished from moral, intellectual and physical standpoint.
The paidonomoi in the project were invited to perform, assistants of the "flagellated" who practiced role guards and controllers of the behavior of young trainees.
An important role is also played by the eirenes, who exercised paidonomou assistants.
The leader of all groups, care of the military education, physical exercises, dance, music and writing for young people, in short,
took care of the physical, mental and moral growth, driven by the requirements of the State.

Each new squadron, chosen as the leader, as generally understood, topper among learners,
who entrusted the work of the organization of the games and soup kitchens.
Prominent place in the hierarchy, compared paidonomon, flagellates and eirenon, held by the Lords, who were citizens Spartans over thirty years,
the object of their duties to exercise general supervision and administrative control.
The drowsiness, the laziness and show indifference towards the homeland, was apparently unknown in ancient Sparta, which if even eneskiptan,
treated in the bud with the challenger deprivation of political rights.
A measure which rested on a base perfect sense, according to which it was not moral law and to rule on the issues of the state,
someone who in practice undermines or at best indifferent to the fate of this.
It is worth noting that the city of Sparta always remained unfortified, and this in order not complacent citizens
and not to neglect their military obligations and work ekgymnaseos.
The new person who would leave the state without having fulfilled his military service and later return, would face the death penalty.

In ancient Sparta, racing perception of life found its apotheosis through the perception that the service and the offer for the Fatherland,
has life duration and is not confined to a formal mandate, as is today.
The males were required to engage in military action, and put into military service up to 60 years.
Until that age, they had a duty to exercise, and generally are in good physical condition and readiness,
eager to fight "for altars and outbreaks" just called up for military service.
The core of the Spartan army, consisted of males between 20 and 30 years.
From each group, chosen three of them,
to whom and aponemeto the title of "ypagretou".
Each of them had the right to choose a hundred men, whom he put under his command.
So they set up a body of three hundred men, who were the elite force of the military machine of Sparta. At the 4th century this body was on horseback.
It is this body of Laconic army, was legendary in the historical memory with the name "The Three hundred" when under the command of King Leonidas,
objected to Persian hordes, and along with 700 Thespians, fought "for altars and outbreaks" and fell up unto the end, the battle of Thermopylae.
